Going On Weekend Breaks
If you like to travel and cant wait till the next summer vacation to see new places and people, weekend breaks are the best solution for you. Getting away for just the weekend is an economical and time-saving alternative to expensive longer trips. There are plenty of locations outside the big cities, within just a couple hours of drive; and you avoid waiting in lines at the airport. Whether you choose to go by yourself, with friends or with your family, proper accommodation and varied leisure activities are available, both for grownups and kids.
If you live in London, you surely know by now that there are great places nearby, within 1-2 hours drive that you can choose for a weekend break. You will be most content to walk in the beautiful landscape, visit the historic sites, and enjoy the restaurants and pubs that are there.
You can either go on a guided trip or by yourself; most visited destinations usually offer organized guided tours. Going on your own, either by car, train or bus allows you to create your own schedule. Driving a car gives you more freedom and also allows you to bring whatever luggage you choose. Beware, though; you may end up in traffic jams or get lost, if your destination is more secluded. Making the journey by train is less stressful; the chances of getting lost are slim and you dont have to worry about finding parking spaces.
A weekend trip does not require lots of luggage; you do however have to take a few basic things with you, the necessary toiletries like basic make up and tooth brushes included. Bring along a small medical kit, to have it handy just in case of emergencies. Get appropriate clothes and footwear and bring maps and the reservation copy for you hotel. A small backpack for holding your wallet, camera, map etc will be helpful.
You can choose to go to some famous destinations around London like Brighton, Bath or Windsor, or go to a less-known historic town like Marlow, set in the beautiful countryside near London. Marlow is set by River Thames, allowing you to take nice walks by the river and visit historical buildings. Marlow hotels are modern and yet offer great resemblance to the traditional English inns; you will find comfort in the rooms and feel at home in the common spaces. Marlow offers a good selection of restaurants and pubs for you to relax and dine in a traditional English country style.
The re-invention of the traditional English Inn; The Crown Amersham is one of Marlow Hotels where not the rooms dominate, but where the common spaces are the heartbeat of the place.
